The Survival Guide for Young Catholics

Who wrote The Survival Guide for Young Catholics? I did, but not alone. As a middle-aged man, a book just written by me for young people would be of limited interest to its intended audience. Fortunately, through various Catholic youth and confirmation groups, I know many young Catholics who have been willing to discuss the themes of this book and to share their ideas with me.

At this point it is probably worth mentioning my own expertise in the field of theology ("God studies"), setting out why it is that I am qualified to write a book like this. Unfortunately this is difficult to do because I'm not an expert in anything in particular. I am just like you. I was baptised a Catholic and have, for a number of years, tried to come to an amateur's understanding of what Catholicism is and why it speaks more truthfully than any of the alternatives that I've considered.

So I am not speaking to you from "on high" as it were, but rather I am sitting next to you in the pews, sharing the same feelings of uncertainty and trying to make sense of something that at times may seem like nonsense.
