The Bible and Prayer

In this issue of Catholic Update, author Michael D. Guinan discusses Pope Benedict XVI's choice of ""The Scriptures in the Life and Mission of the Church"" as the theme for the 12th World Synod of Bishops, at Vatican City, in October 2008. In particular, author Guinan looks at one important area discussed at the synod: the role and place of the Bible in Catholics' prayer life. He focuses especially on the Eucharist as the basic model for praying the Scriptures and the ancient practice of lectio divina as a guide in doing this.
