While not diminishing the importance of the Ten Commandments, they can be intimidating to children. Rather than a series of "thou shall nots," it is probably easier to introduce the faith to the young with a series of "Blessed are theys." The Beatitudes are a great way to explain Christian virtues and morals. Even at an early age, children can begin to memorize the Beatitudes and understand what they mean, especially if you discuss the teachings with them.
