Seeking Jesus in His Own Land

The Birth of Jesus (Teen-Adult, 25 min.) Scripture scholar Father Stephen Doyle, O.F.M., guides us through the ancient land of prophecies, stopping to view the ruins of the City of David as well as Qumran, site of the Jewish sect who lived in intense expectation of the coming of the Messiah. At Nazareth, we live again the wonder of Mary's ""yes"" to the divine invitation to become the mother of Jesus. We recall Mary's meeting with Elizabeth and visit the Basilica of the Annunciation. Then, traveling to Shepherds' Fields, we are touched by the glory and humility of the Christmas story and end our journey at the Basilica of the Nativity, marking the place of Jesus' birth.

Jesus the Prophet (Teen-Adult, 30 min.) Scripture scholar Father Stephen Doyle, O.F.M., takes us on a journey ringing with familiar names: Nazareth, Cana, Capernaum and Galilee. We visit the desert of the temptations and relive Jesus' baptism by John. Jesus' calming of the storm, his gift of the Beatitudes and the Our Father take on new meaning as we stand where Jesus might have stood on his journey throughout Galilee. The impact of Jesus' radical teachings helps us understand why Jesus wanted to reassure some of his disciples regarding his divine mission. Like them, we stand on Mt. Tabor and know again the glory of Jesus and his message.

Jesus the Redeemer (Teen-Adult, 45 min.) Scripture scholar Father Stephen Doyle, O.F.M., invites viewers to participate in Jesus' final journey to Jerusalem and to reflect on the loving witness of the Savior's mission. Viewers learn the meaning of pilgrimage and are introduced to the city of Jerusalem and its surroundings-the setting for so much of the final drama of salvation. The pilgrimage visits sites where Father Doyle shows how Jesus' friendship with women, his Sabbath healing at Bethesda and his cleansing of the Temple fueled the hatred of the local leaders. The pilgrimage then traces Jesus' final days on earth-at the Cenacle, the house of Caiphas, the cistern prison where Jesus was held overnight, along the Via Dolorosa, then to Calvary and the Holy Sepulchre. They visit Emmaus and Tabgha, the scene of Jesus commissioning Peter to lead his Church.
