"Peace is not a season, it is a way of life" and "if you want peace, work for justice" are axioms with which many of us are familiar. The latter, coined by Pope Paul VI, echoes the message of John XXIII's encyclical "Peace on Earth" ("Pacem in Terris"), which he addressed to "all people of good will." His passion for peace is conveyed in his message that protecting and promoting human dignity and rights is the foundation for world peace. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Peace on Earth," we look at how well we have responded to its message and consider the challenge and task still before us: to work for both justice and peace.
