Christmas Watch

The aim of this Advent Catholic Update is to help us reflect a little more daringly on what we really are waiting and preparing for as we wait with the Church for the coming of Christ. Advent is not about a sentimental waiting for the baby Jesus. The authors challenge us to focus our expectation and anticipation on ""the adult Christ, the cosmic Christ,"" the Lord who challenges us to conversion and new life. The authors exhort us to confront the illusions and addictions that hinder us from becoming proclaimers of the Kingdom of God. They hunger for a more spiritual and less material Christmas season in which Christians detach themselves from their false securities ""the bottomless pit of never having enough"" and accept the call of Jesus and the Baptist to conversion.
